expanding a design Language

The Epic Mesh Router is a wireless network solution that was designed with a heavy focus on manufacturing and product performance. Form and functionality were executed together to create a series of design elements that would influence a future family of IOT products and help shorten product development timelines.

creating a toolkit

A toolkit of design elements was developed to create a consistent form language across the expanding product line. Primary forms and secondary elements were used to create a hierarchy that would help execute functional and aesthetic requirements.

testing the toolkit

The design elements that I defined above will constantly evolve with different designers, updated product requirements, and new market trends. One way of testing the efficacy of the design elements was by applying them to a large range of potential IOT products.

The results of applying the toolkit to a variety of residential IOT products (wifi router, mesh router, mesh node, doorbell, wireless speaker, thermostat, weather station, and fragrance dispenser).

exploring material, finish, & color

Offering a variety of colors and finishes is more important than ever as customers search for personalized buying experiences. I explored a conservative color palette that reflected Luxul’s current product offering, and also experimented with more radical finishes that were influenced by trends in consumer electronics.
