interview Insights

  • Renters rely on their landlord to do major maintenance projects and do not have much freedom to modify their rented space

  • Renters need to do basic tasks like hang curtain rods, fix a broken toilet handle, assemble IKEA furniture, etc.

  • Pinterest, Youtube, Google, and Reddit are used to self educate on tools and projects

  • Many own second hand tools that were given to them

  • They were not comfortable doing electrical or plumbing jobs

  • Tools were stored in the basement or garage

  • They needed basic tools for home improvement and automotive projects

  • Renters don’t want professional level tools, but they also don’t want cheap tools

Clara doesn’t have much time to fix things, but she likes to keep a few tools around that her Dad gave her. When something needs to be fixed she calls her landlord.

POV Statement

Millennial renters that are interested in personalizing their space, but don't have significant home improvement experience, need an easier way to complete simple home improvement tasks because they feel intimidated by unfamiliar projects and tools
